Goodbye Tanzania, hello Uganda! From Zanzibar to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania was my first time in Africa, and it was Amazing! We landed on Zanzibar and I was completely immersed in the history of Eastern Africa. From colonisation to the massive slave trade in the region. We stayed in stonetown which is a maze of alleys with houses and shops towering over you. Many times we were lost in the mess of roads. We also went snorkeling in Zanzibar which was so cool! We saw massive coral reefs, sea urchins, sea stars, and some cool fish. We took a large boat to Dar Es Salaam, and from there a bus to Lesotho. We actually got on the wrong bus, the bus we took was going to Moshi. So we had to get off at a random place, and take a cab to where we needed to get to. From Lesotho we started to hike the Usambara mountains. This was a 3 day trek through mountains, valleys, villages, and rainforests. We travelled 24 kilometres on the first day. Remember this was not flat land. Hiking up and down and up again is very tiring. We finished the hike sore and weary. We travelled by bus to Moshi, and we started our safari. We drove to the Taringire park where we saw a leopard, a cheetah, giraffes, elephants, and a ton more. Then we travelled to lake Manyara. We saw a ton of wildebeest and zebras. Then we went to Ngrongoro crater. It was definitely a sight to behold. The crater is giant at 11.5 kilometre radius. It is a giant habitat for many animals such as zebras, lions, hyenas, elephants, and even rhinos. After we stayed here for a day, we left for the Serengeti. We saw about 16 lions together in one spot. We also spotted more cheetahs and a TON of hippos and crocodiles. After that we went back to Moshi. We stayed there for about 4 more days. In that time we went to a 2 schools, 2 orphanages, and a safe house for street children. Then we hiked up Kilimanjaro. Ok, not really, but we did hike up the first part of the hike. The hike has either 4 or 5 parts if you want to go fast or slow. Then we hiked back down, and then the next day, we flew out of Kilimanjaro airport on our way to Uganda.
